Preserve a Beloved Breed
AMDCA Protects and maintains the Appenzeller Sennenhund in accordance with the standard approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), and Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI).
Support Ethical Breeding
AMDCA's Code of Ethics provides clear guidelines for care of breeding dogs and the necessary health testing to ensure future generations of happy, healthy dogs. All AMDCA members strive to meet these high standards.
Mentor New and Prospective Owners
Appenzellers are intelligent, athletic, demanding dogs. New owners often need mentoring and support. Experienced Appenzeller owners provide this support through our Facebook group, quarterly video calls, and through private outreach.
Appenzeller Rescue
From time to time, the club learns of an Appenzeller that is in need of a new home. AMDCA works diligently with the current owner to find a new home that matches the dog's personality and needs.
Participate in AKC and CKC Events
AMDCA performs all of the parent club responsibilities needed for Appenzellers to participate as purebred dogs in Kennel Club sanctioned sports such as conformation, agility, obedience, rally, scent work, and more. We also deliver judges education programs.
Breeder Registration and Studbook
The club maintains the studbook of record for both AKC and CKC. This important responsibility tracks the pedigrees of all registered dogs in North America and is used to guide future breeding decisions.
Social Programming
AMDCA Sponsors social programs where Appenzeller owners meet, make new friends, get advice, and share tips. The club also publishes a quarterly newsletter that is both informative and fun to read.
Calendars and Appenzeller Gear
As a rare breed in North America, it can be difficult to find Appenzellers on pretty much anything. The club produces a calendar with countless Appenzeller photos to enjoy throughout the year, and has plans to produce shirts, hats, bags, stickers, and more!
