 Appenzell Mountain Dog
Club of America

Official National Breed Club for Appenzellers in the United States and Canada

Who we are

AMDCA mission

Appenzell Mountain Dog Club of America (AMDCA) is a group of Appenzeller owners, operating as a tax exempt Social Club under IRS code 501(c)7. We strive to protect and preserve the  breed and make it recognized and prominent in North America by promoting the breed and educating the public about Appenzellers' great qualities. The Appenzeller (aka as Appenzeller Sennehund, Appenzell Cattle Dog) is one of the four ancient Swiss mountain dog breeds. The breed was traditionally used for herding and as a livestock guardian and is famous for its legendary endurance and agility. Appenzellers are considered a rare breed. They are eligible to compete in Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) events as a Listed Breed in Group 7 (Herding) and they fall under the American Kennel Club's (AKC) Foundation Stock Services.

Help to rescue and re-home Appenzellers

AMDCA is not a shelter or a kennel. However, once in  a while we receive requests for help with re-homing Appenzellers. Please visit our Rescue & Rehoming page for more information.
